The Fishery owns a fleet of 34 Coulam 15 Defenders made by J M Coulam Boat Builders has Rubber D section gunwales instead of the traditional wooden gunwales, this option helps to reduce winter maintenance even further.
All our boats are powered by 4hp Mercury outboards.
Hardwood is bonded on the inside of the boat, to form the strength, and the D section rubber is then bolted through. The hollow section has a aluminium strip down the middle to prevent the bolt heads from pulling through.
These boats can be rolled over or lifted in the same way without risk of damage to the rubber. If, in an extreme case, the rubber is damaged, it is very easy to repair.
